We’re Here for You
Founded specifically to fill the gap of affordable AND skilled legal representation in juvenile, divorce, and family law matters in Alabama, Balance Family Law believes
every family deserves to find stability amid life’s toughest challenges.
Charity Dyer, JD
Founder and Esquire
Before even finishing her undergraduate degree, attorney Charity Dyer knew she wanted to work in family law- specifically with Juvenile and Divorce matters. Seeing firsthand the profound impact a skilled attorney makes in these cases, Charity set out to become an advocate for those who need their voices heard most.
After completing her bachelor’s degree and being accepted into law school, Charity began working full-time as a paralegal and law clerk, training under local skilled family law attorneys until she obtained her Juris Doctorate from Birmingham School of Law. Upon graduating in August 2024 and subsequently being admitted to the Alabama State Bar, she founded Balance Family Law in April 2025.

Our Services
-
We specialize in representing minors— individuals under the age of 18—who are involved in the legal system.
Juvenile law services we offer include, but are not limited to:
Juveniles Delinquency Cases
We represent minors accused of crimes such as theft, drug possession, assault, or vandalism.
We’ll ensure the child’s rights are protected during arrest, questioning, and court proceedings.
We work to achieve outcomes that focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment.
2. Guiding Families Through the Legal Process
We’ll explain court procedures and potential outcomes to both the juvenile and their family.
We provide support during hearings, plea bargains, or trials.
3. Advocate for Rehabilitation over Incarceration
We argue for alternatives to incarceration, such as diversion programs, counseling, community service, or probation.
We’ll work with social workers, schools, and therapists to develop a plan that supports the minor’s development.
4. Child Protection Cases
We represent children in dependency cases (e.g., abuse, neglect, or foster care placement).
We always advocate for the child's best interests in family court.
5. Negotiations (with Prosecutors and Judges)
We’ll work to reduce charges or penalties.
We often aim to keep the juvenile’s record clean or sealed when possible.
Important Qualities of a Juvenile Lawyer we offer:
Knowledge of child development and psychology
Patience and communication skills with youth
Strong understanding of juvenile laws and procedures
